One of the most important topics of acne health is good hygiene.  It seems that most adults, and even teenagers would be in tuned with the importance of cleanliness, but that’s not always the case.

There are times you see people with severe acne, but they also have greasy hair and dirty finger nails.  Keeping your face, hair, and hands clean are essential to keeping your face clear of breakouts.  Bacteria are one of the leading causes to breaking out, so here are some tips to avoiding unnecessary acne.

First, wash your hands multiple times per day.  Make sure to scrub any dirt from underneath your fingernails.  Keeping your nails short is the easiest way to keep dirt from building under your nails.

Even after your hands are clean, avoid touching your face.  You should never touch the acne on your face because this could cause the bacteria to spread to other areas of your face resulting in more breakouts.  This means absolutely no squeezing pimples which could also lead to irritation or infections.

If you have oily hair, make sure to wash it every day.   This will keep the oils from getting to your face which can cause breakouts.  Keeping your hair away from your face is another way of keeping your acne under control; this is especially true if you’ll be doing activities where you will sweat a lot.  Keep your hair pulled back, in a headband, or short in order to avoid it touching your face.

Keeping your face clean and treated will be one of the most important things you can do to prevent acne.  You will want to wash your face with an oil-free face wash at least once in the morning and once before bed.  You will then apply an acne spot treatment to large pimples and a moisturizer that contains benzyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

If you follow the acne health tips for good hygiene, you should start seeing results very soon.  All these steps only take a few minutes out of your day and the results are worth it.
